WebOuest - Les Prairies (Manitoba)

Martine Bordeleau, membre de la Société Généalogique Virtuelle du Québec, présentera son blog et expliquera pourquoi
elle s'est lancée dans ce projet - principalement parce qu'il y a très peu de contenu en français sur le web concernant les
familles francophones de l'Ouest ! Elle parlera également des sources qu'elle utilise : primaires et secondaires, des défis
qu'elle rencontre et de ce qu'elle en a appris.
Martine Bordeleau est blogueuse et publie toutes les deux semaines un article sur webouest.ca à propos de la généalogie et
des familles de l'Ouest canadien. Elle est aussi co-autrice d'un tout nouveau livre intitulé Le Vieux-Québec en cartes postales
anciennes aux Éditions des Plaines du Manitoba. Au cours de sa carrière dans les médias, qui s'est terminée en 2020, Martine
Bordeleau a accumulé plus de 35 ans d’expérience au Manitoba, en France et en Afrique, en qualité de journaliste, animatrice,
présentatrice, chroniqueuse, webmestre, ainsi que gestionnaire en marketing et communications. Elle s’est distinguée de 2013 à
2019 comme animatrice radio à Radio-Canada Manitoba pour les émissions de radio du matin et du retour à la maison. Elle est
ne militante pour les droits des femmes et croit fermement que les changements sociaux passent par les échanges et l’éducation.
C’est ce qui l’a motivée en mars 2016 à créer le groupe Facebook Manitobaines et féministes, lieu de partage et de soutien sur les
luttes, les défis et les succès féministes de chez nous et d'ailleurs. Martine n’est ni généalogiste ni historienne, mais elle nourrit une
véritable passion pour ces sujets, inspirée par sa mère, Henriette Moreau, qui a consacré une partie de sa vie à établir l’arbre
généalogique de la famille. Selon Martine, chaque famille a une histoire à découvrir qui vient enrichir le patrimoine de
nos communautés.

From Colonial Canals to the Seaway: Migration and Development in the St. Lawrence Watershed

The desire to access the interior of the North American continent with ocean-going vessels pre-dates European settlement.
In 1689 François Dollier de Casson, a Sulpician priest, was the first to start digging to circumvent the Lachine Rapids.
Inter-governmental discussions for the "St. Lawrence Waterway Project" dated back as far as the 1890s. Efforts culminated
with the 1959 opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway as "the world's longest inland deep draft marine highway", forever changing
Quebec's geographic, economic, and political landscapes.
With a focus on both geography and biography, this tale will be told through the diverse and driven personalities who worked to
reshape the rivers and lakes of Quebec and beyond for navigation.
After a career in financial services Mark Gallop, a Québec Genealogical eSociety member, now devotes his time to
historical research, writing, and lecturing. He is a Trustee of Mount Royal Cemetery, a Governor of the Royal Canadian
Geographical Society, and a past President of the Atwater Library. He divides his time between New Brunswick and Quebec.
Primary geographic areas of interest in Quebec are Montreal (surnames: Gallop, Willis, Castle, Herdman) and the
St. Francis Valley of the Eastern Townships (surnames: Dickson, Stevens,Trenholm, Lyster, Anderson, Brown, Smillie).

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in genealogical research involves seeking out the stories, histories and experiences for
individuals from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, different races, ethnicities, cultures, abilities and sexual orientations.
As genealogists and family history researchers we need to avoid perpetuating biases present in historical records, promote
equity, consider multiple perspectives, use inclusive language and reflect the richness and complexity of human experiences.
Holly, a Québec Genealogical eSociety member, is Vice-Chair, APGCAN (Association of Professional Genealogists Canada Chapter),
Charter Genealogist at AncestreeDetectives, genealogist at Sir Guy Carleton Branch (Ottawa) and Heritage Branch (Montreal) of
UELAC. Her genealogy website is https://familyfootprints.ca/ Holly’s goal is to be a Lifelong learner and use her skills to help others.
She successfully completed the Genealogical Research Certificate from Boston University in May 2020. She is a member of several
genealogy societies and organizations to keep up with advances in the genealogical field. Holly graduated from the Diploma program
in Public Relations Management at McGill University in 2013. Her B.A. Double Major, Journalism/Political Science, Concordia University
is from the Stone Age. Holly is retired from a 37yr+ career in Broadcast Media.
